Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen!
What job is safe? A question I've asked myself many time over. Even better, what makes a job safe? I thought I knew the answer to this. Till Covid happened. Covid hit everyone in one way or another. Some were personally impacted by the devastating loss of those infected with covid. Some were financially impacted by the loss of their job or the drastic cut of hours. Others were forced to stay home with children due to schools and childcare centers closing.
What happened to us? My hours were cut. With my boyfriend and I having two children and a third on the way, the cut hours hurt financially.
Then he got a a good job with promotion opportunity. Okay so the question was what should I do? I wanted to help reach our goals, yet was worried about the job market. Not to mention all three of our children were under 5 and childcare was expensive. He then suggested working from home. I thought about this. Then researched. I decided to attempt to rekindle a dream I had when I was a child, being an author.
Why? Covid showed me no W2 job was safe. In fact even owning your own business was dangerous in the case of renting out a building. What safer option was there? Multiple income streams. One of the best streams is semi passive. This is income that has the potential to pay out even when you aren't working on it, which an example of that are books. It was also the cheapest and easiest to start.
I have to thank my boys for this. They were arguing over what song to sing with mommy next. It was between Hickory Dickory Dock and Dinosaur song. Between the yelling, one of the boys mixed them up and said, "The dinosaur went up the clock." They laughed at how silly it sounded. Tick Tock Dinosaur was then born and published on Amazon in November of 2021. I then decided on one new book a month and in December, "Mama why?" was published after Christmas. So what job is safe? None. The best way to protect yourself is with multiple streams of income. Even if they are slow to start up. Let me know if you have questions. Want to share your story?
