This sounds like a black and white answer. Either yes or no. The simple answer? Too much jealousy is very unhealthy.
Say you have a couple who seem perfect together. they laugh, have fun together, joke together and just seem happy. A young women walks by and touches his arm trying to flirt and he just smiles and keeps walking. To your surprise, his women doesn't jump on the other woman and doesn't go after him for smiling at the girl. They just continue on.
"That means she wasn't jealous."
Nope. She probably had that hint of jealousy in the pit of her stomach. The difference is that she trust her man to not pursue. She knows he's strong enough mentally to resist that temptation and won't let it ruin their day.
Jealousy is natural. It happens when someone knows their partner is someone they respect, value, and anyone would want. A bit of jealousy, especially for woman is normally. The difference is that they won't let it consume them or influence them.
Jealousy becomes dangerous when a person allows the jealousy to influence toxic behaviors like becoming controlling. It usually stems from ow self worth. It can lead to violence, controlling behavior, spying on their partner, fights and a lot more.
For a relationship to be successful both partners need to realize their own self worth. They need to know that if the worst happens, they'll heal and move on. Working on improving one's self will help with this. Exercising, good hygiene, good diet and learning something new every day will help someone feel better about themselves.
This will also give them the emotional strength to be able to leave a toxic relationship if needed. There will be no comment like:
"You can't find someone better than me." or "You're lucky to have me." or even :You're nothing without me."
A healthy relationship doesn't hear comments like this because both partners realize the value each other brings. They have the understanding that if separated, both can go find something better.
So instead of letting jealousy win, take a step back. Think about it. Do you trust them? If so, then there is no reason to allow that annoying monster out of it's cage. If you don't, it may be time to evaluate your relationship. Why don't you trust them? Is it because of their behavior or due to past relationships?
